When the retirement of 1522 was announced in June, 2002, the St. Louis Chapter NRHS, BNSF and Amtrak worked very hard to put together some farewell trips. Despite short notice for assembling a train and advertising, not to mention high ticket prices due to the increased insurance, the trips sold out and ran in beautiful weather, belying the sadness that many felt to see the 1522 run her last few miles in mainline service. An appeal to riders and chasers brought together this collection of photos which are shown in no particular order:
